Global Hand Wash Day 2021
We celebrate Global Hand Wash Day on October 15, 2021. In Ethiopia the main event will be organized on October 20, 2021.
COWASH is contributing to the hand wash campaigning through different channels by co-financing the sector event preparations and by actions in the establishment of hand washing at institutions and water points. COVID has shown us that the handwashing is not only the job of women and girls, but also greatly by the men and boys, who happen to take part in public gatherings. Hand washing is the duty of all of us to save the lives of our friends and families. Join to promote handwashing with COWASH.
Join us in recognizing the World Hand Washing Day!
October 15 is Global Hand washing Day, a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness about the importance of hand washing with water and soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.
The observance was founded by the Global Hand washing partnership in 2008 and the day has been commemorated by various global actors in water, sanitation and hygiene.
Since 2008, community and national leaders have used global hand washing day to promote awareness on hand washing and advocate provision of affordable hand wash infrastructures such as sink, tippy taps, soaps etc.
The 2021 Global Handwashing Day theme is “Our future is at hand- Let us move forward together.”
In COWASH, we believe the COVID-19 Pandemic is another reminder not only to celebrate the global hand washing day but to practice hand washing at all times and critical times in particular to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus along proper face masking and physical distancing measures. In the era of COVID -19, hand wash is universally promoted for men and women, children and young people at all times to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
On this day, we believe, regardless of your role, you can join us in advocating global hand washing day by dedicating and sharing the theme assigned for the year 2021.
In Ethiopia, World Hand Washing Day is planned to be celebrated nationally in attendance of Key government partners and WASH Stakeholders on 20th of October. We will provide key updates during the celebration.
