Government of Finland supported Ali spring water supply gravity scheme rehabilitation in Pawe district of Metekel zone in Benishangul Gumuz region was inaugurated on 22nd of October 2015. The rehabilitation of the gravity scheme which had been undergone from June 2014 to July 2015 was supported financially and technically by FinnWASH-BG (2009-2015), a bilateral project between governments of Finland and Ethiopia, using the community managed project (CMP) approach.
Community-Led Accelerated WASH (COWASH) Phase III planning workshop was held on 25th of September in Addis Ababa. It was announced during the workshop that the Government of Finland is willing to support COWASH that assists the implementation of Community Managed Project (CMP) approach for three more years from July 2016-June 2019.
Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy in close collaboration with COWASH, WHO and some other relevant organizations in Ethiopia organized a six day long workshop to prepare training materials for the rural Climate-Resilient Water Safety Planning training. The workshop with 9-10 water safety planning professionals from Ethiopia is ongoing from August 10 to August 15 in Bishoftu Tommy International Hotel. Based on the result of this workshop intensive rural CR-WSP training of the regions can start.
Water, Engineering and Development Center (WEDC) organized the 38th international conference with a theme ‘water, sanitation and hygiene services beyond 2015’ in Loughborough University in England from 27-31 July 2015. The conference that brought together 350 international WASH practitioners, researchers and donors from 47 countries, gave due emphasis on improving access and sustainability of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services.
The community-Led Accelerated WASH (COWASH) supported community managed WASH projects in four kebeles of Bambasi district in Benishangul Gumuz national regional state were inaugurated from 28-30 July 2015. Representatives from sector bureaus and offices at regional and federal level respectively including the Federal COWASH Technical Assistance Team and Regional Support Unit witnessed the official opening of six water points to the public.
The Water Resource Development Bureau of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ (SNNP) national regional states conducted a 2014/15 performance review and 2015/16 planning workshop on Community-Led Accelerated WASH (COWASH) projects on 18 July 2015 in Sodo town of Wolaita zone. Along with the stakeholders from Eight COWASH districts, three zones and regional sector bureaus and the federal technical assistance team, the annual workshop was graced by the presence of Samuel Tamiru, head of the regional Water Resource Development bureau.

Benishangul Gumuz region has organized a workshop to review the 2014/15 performance and plan for 2015/16 regarding the implementation of Community Managed Project (CMP) from 23-25 June 2015 in Assosa. All concerned bodies from the regional sector bureaus, two zones’ and four districts’ sector offices participated in the workshop.
The Final COWASH Mid-Term Evaluation report was published.
